One thing to note with Philips Hue is that, once you get started, you are committed into this ecosystem as all lights require the Hub to work, and only Philips Hue lights can work with the Philips Hue Hub.

Philips Hue has some great integrations with Home Assistant and OpenHAB, so if you already use one of these platforms you can easily add this ecosystem into your existing setup.
